We're doing a series on Jungian archetypes, which are popular character development tools. Jung drew his inspiration from the same iconic social roles found throughout ancient traditions of tarot, alchemy, and mysticism.
Banish every thought you have about the creator archetype, because there is only one fundamental truth you should understand about this often neglected visionary. They bring order to chaos. That's right. Most of us have been taught to view artists and creative people as disruptive forces who hold a magnifying glass to uncomfortable truths and generate disorder in the process. Melancholy and misery abound where they dare tread.
Except this is wrong. The chaos had already been brewing, and their work brings it out into the light where we can gather together and take action. Sometimes it's terrible, but often beautiful.
Architects. Designers. Writers. Ah hem. All creator archetypes synthesize patterns from the ether to create something that didn't exist before. Our lives are richer because they create. It doesn't matter whether they master tedious technical skills or wander around manically using concepts like paint and everyone’s ears, their canvas. Creation involves a mixture of ideas and applications.
Creator Archetype
On the archetype wheel, the creator is associated with the rulers and the caregiver archetypes because they provide structure. They focus on bringing something new into existence, motivated by their self-expression. Mediocrity plagues their fears. They face obstacles both in sharing their vision, its value, and acquiring resources to produce it.
